CTC Update Day 4

Defenseman Yuji Akimoto scored a highlight-reel goal in the first period of the bronze medal game at the Cyclone Taylor Cup to round out the season scoring for the Ice Hawks on Sunday afternoon in Revelstoke.

Sadly for the Delta Ice Hawks, the Cyclone Taylor Cup didn’t go the way they had hoped, as they fell 4-2 to the Oceanside Generals in the bronze medal game Sunday afternoon.

The Generals struck first with less than four minutes to go in the first, but the Hawks came back with two goals before the end of the period. The first came when Alec Scouras tried to shoot, but a Generals defender got a stick on it. The deflection went up and hit Kyle Robinson skating by and into the net off his shoulder to tie the game.

With 38 seconds remaining in the frame, Yuji Akimoto came storming down the left wing, made a drag move past a defensman, and went backhand up and over the glove of Ashton Sadauskas.

Oceanside would get two goals in the second period and one more in the third to win the bronze medal, meaning the Ice Hawks finished fourth in the provincial tournament to end the 2022-23 season.

Congratulations to Delta’s graduating 20-year-olds – Captain Alec Scouras, Assistant Captain Kyle Robinson, Assistant Captain Carson Hemenway, forward Alex Lucchesi, and forward Joshua Kee. Best of luck going forward!
