The Ice Hawks remain undefeated to start the inaugual BCHC season, taking down the Coastal Tsunami 5-4 in their first meeting of the season.
It was a very back-and-forth game, with the teams trading goals under five minutes apart four times. While it was a high-scoring game, both goalies made key saves to keep the game tight.
Brandon Burns bagged his first goal as an Ice Hawk to open the scoring, and Beckett Matlock got his second late in the first period to make it 2-2 after the first 20 minutes.
Lukas Hoff also had his second of the year, the lone Hawks goal of the second period, to give Delta the lead, but the Tsunami quickly tied it up again for another tie at the intermission.
In the third, the teams traded power play goals, with Delta’s scored by veteran Brogan Kennedy. Jack Tudhope’s first goal as a Hawk came just 42 seconds after Coastal’s power play marker and was the eventual game-winner, giving the Hawks the 5-4 lead and their third win of the young season.
