Ice Hawks receive BC Hockey appeal decision

February 22, 2023 – Ladner Leisure Centre, City of Delta, British Columbia

The Delta Ice Hawks would like to provide an update on the appeal with BC Hockey of the recent ruling by the PJHL, which penalized the team eight points in the standings because the PJHL concluded that an “ineligible” player had participated in four league games for the Ice Hawks. The Ice Hawks submitted the matter to BC Hockey for appeal and the BC Hockey Appeal Committee undertook a hearing on February 20, 2023.

The Ice Hawks are pleased to report that the Appeal Committee rendered a decision earlier today and determined that the PJHL decision will be modified as follows: The original results of the December 29, 2022, January 1, 2023, and January 3, 2023 games, which had been deemed to be game forfeits by the PJHL, will be reinstated as wins for the Ice Hawks. The Delta Ice Hawks will forfeit their win in the game of January 10, 2023.

The Ice Hawks would like to thank BC Hockey and its Appeal Committee for their prompt attention to this matter, and are pleased with the outcome. The Ice Hawks also appreciated the support the team received from the hockey community while waiting for this decision and would like to thank its legal counsel, Michael Shirreff and Greg Cavouras of Sugden, McFee & Roos LLP, who represented the Ice Hawks in the appeal.
