The Hawks defeated the Steelers in Burnaby on Wednesday night 6-2, taking the series 4-1and moving on to the next round.
In the first, Henry Smith, Luke Mongrain, and Alec Scouras all had goals in a four-minute span, giving the Hawks a quick 3-0 lead. Grandview’s Luke Cox added a goal before the end of the frame, getting his team on the board.
Austin Kofler regained and expanded on Delta’s lead in the second with two goals before the midway point of the period, making it 5-1. And again right before the end of the period, Grandview added another goal from Mason Brown.
Carson Merriman potted a power play goal later in the third, the final goal of the night, sealing the Steelers’ fate and sending the Hawks to the third round. Their opponent will be the winner of the other quarterfinal – either the Richmond Sockeyes or the White Rock Whalers – in the Tom Shaw Conference final.
