March 23 Game 1 Recap

Brayden Sinclair fell during his celebration of his goal scored early into Game 1 of the PJHL Finals, the only Delta goal of the game on Thursday night.

The PJHL Finals are underway and in a tight Game 1, the Ridge Meadows Flames defeated the Delta Ice Hawks by a 2-1 score.

Delta controlled the play for most of the game, outshooting Ridge Meadows 45-33, but Flames goalie Cam Connolly kept the strong Ice Hawks offence off the board for 58 minutes after Delta’s lone goal.

A goal just 1:12 into the first period from the Hawks looked like the home team was off to a good start. Payton Hu sent a long pass up to Colin Jang, who then found Brayden Sinclair cutting into the slot. Sinclair deked and got Connolly to bite, sliding the puck into an open net to open the scoring, Sinclair’s fourth of the playoffs.

Ridge Meadows tied the game late in the second period, with a shot from Brandon Obsorne at the point that Zach Shaughnessy must not have been able to see, as it floated over his left shoulder to make it 1-1 after two periods.

There was another long gap between goals heading in the third period, with Ridge Meadows breaking through with just seven minutes left. The puck was stolen down low and passed to Cohen Muc on the right side, who took a shot and Zack Lagrange was out front to redirect it past Shaughnessy for a 2-1 lead and eventual Flames Game 1 win.
