Nov 29 Game Recap – Hawks win!

Hawks goalie Zach Shaughnessy stopped all 28 shots he faced on Tuesday night for his fourth shutout of the season and the Hawks’ twentieth win of the year.

Zach Shaughnessy posted his fourth shutout of the season to help lead his Ice Hawks to a 3-0 win over division rivals the White Rock Whalers on Tuesday night.

The first period was scoreless and very even between the two teams, with the shots leaning slightly in White Rock’s favour at 11-10.

Delta took over in the second period though, as the Hawks notched two goals in the frame, starting off with a pass into the middle by Danylo Bereza that went in off the skate of Aiden McGregor-Bennett to break the scoreless tie.

Later in the frame, the Hawks went on a power play that didn’t last very long, as on the first cycle, Yuji Akimoto unleashed an absolute rocket from the top of the right circle to beat Mark Paton and make it 2-0 for the home team.

Just one more goal was scored in the match, and it was a third period empty-netter from the Whalers’ blue line, scored by Conner Merriman. He blocked a shot, then beat out two White Rock defenders for the puck, wristing home a long shot to seal the win for Delta.

The Hawks now have a week off before their next game, back at the Ladner Leisure Centre against the Grandview Steelers for the Teddy Bear Toss game to support Deltassist and their holiday programs.
