Nov 8 Game Recap – Hawks win!

Payton Hu sparked the Hawks in the second period, scoring the first of four goals they had in the frame; his tenth of the season came on the power play.

The Delta Ice Hawks overcame a slow start to their game Tuesday night, scoring four goals in the second period to take home a 5-3 win over the Mission City Outlaws.

After allowing two goals early in the first, Merik Erickson shut the door, stopping 20 of 22 shots total in the game.

Those two goals came on the just five shots the Outlaws had in the first period, and they were able to come out of the first 20 minutes ahead. Chase Newman and Brayden Chenier had goals just 55 seconds apart to put their team up 2-0.

That did not last long, though, as the Ice Hawks were able to break through Mission City goalie Max Fowle’s strong play in the second period, as the Hawks had a four-goal swing in the frame, starting with a power play goal.

Alec Scouras carried the puck nearly end-to-end, dishing it to Payton Hu in the slot at the last second. Hu made a quick move around a defender and wristed home his tenth of the year.

Less than two minutes later, the Hawks were cycling and Alec Scouras deked a defender and cut down low. He again found an open Hawk in the slot, this time Brayden Sinclair, who took a stride or two before picking a corner to tie the game with his sixteenth.

Scouras nabbed a goal later in the period, his seventh, to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead. He broke out with Dylan Garland, who had the puck and passed to Scouras as they entered the Outlaws’ zone. Scouras wove his way into the high slot and beat Fowle clean with a wrist shot.

With less than a minute to go, Carson Hemenway took a quick shot from the point, and Danylo Bereza was in the right place at the right time, tipping it in for his third of the season and a Hawks 4-2 lead through two periods.

Mission City crept within one goal, as Newman scored at the end of a give and go with just over five minutes left in the game to make it 4-3.

But Brayden Sinclair gave the Hawks their two-goal lead back just over two minutes later while Delta was on the penalty kill, stealing the puck near the blue line and taking it all the way down to beat Fowle and seal the win with a 5-3 finish.
