Assistant captain Carson Hemenway was one of three players who had a hat trick on Tuesday night in the Ice Hawks’ 16-0 win over the Aldergrove Kodiaks.
The Ice Hawks continued their streak of offensive outbursts on home ice, defeating the Aldergrove Kodiaks 16-0 on Tuesday night.
Carson Merriman, Carson Hemenway, and Colin Jang each had a hat trick in the game. For Merriman, it was goals 5, 6, and 7 on the year; 3, 4, and 5 for Hemenway, and 2, 3, and 4 for Jang.
The defence held the Kodiaks to just 14 shots all game, keeping most of the possession on the other side of the ice.
The first period saw just two goals, with both Merriman and Hemenway getting their first goals of the night. Merriman’s was at full-strength, while Hemenway capitalized on a power play opportunity.
Two short-handed goals started the scoring off in the second period, netted respectively by Ryan Bal and Jang just 54 seconds apart. Bal’s goal was his first of the season.
Logan Joslin added a shot from the point to make it 5-0 36 seconds later, finishing up a quick succession of three Delta goals in a minute and a half.
Merriman completed his hat trick with back-to-back goals Jang and Hemenway each had another goal before the period ended, and Yuji Akimoto potted his first of the night as well, pushing the Hawks into double digits, 10-0, before the end of the middle frame.
Akimoto added his second of the game and fifth of the year in the third period, the first of six goals the Hawks scored in the final 20 minutes.
Austin Kofler and Henry Smith scored their first goals of the game 29 seconds apart halfway through the frame, making it 13-0 for the home team.
Hemenway completed his hat trick with another power play goal with about five minutes left. Dylan Garland added a goal of his own to make it 15-0, and Jang got his third with just four seconds left.
