October 26 Game Recap – Hawks Win!

In Delta’s first visit to the Sunshine Coast, the Ice Hawks shut out the Coastal Tsunami 6-0 on home ice in Gibsons Sunday night.

Highlights included a 28-shot shutout from Zach Shaughnessy and a hat trick from Ryden Mathieson, as well as another multi-goal game from Grady Lenton.

Mathieson’s first goal was a tip-in on a pass threaded through the slot from the newest Ice Hawk Rajun Parmar five minutes into the game to take a 1-0 lead.

Lenton doubled the lead after picking up the puck, tapped to him by Lucas Jakubec under pressure. He skated to the high slot and ripped a wrister over the shoulder of Nick Peters for a 2-0 lead.

The first period scoring was wrapped by Mathieson firing a one-timer for his second goal of the game to make it 3-0 after 20 minutes.

Mathieson also had the lone goal of the second period to complete his hat trick, chopping away at a rebound with a defender out front and winning the battle for the milestone goal and a 4-0 Hawks lead after two periods.

The final two goals of the game were scored by Lenton and Mateo Sjoberg, both short-handed and less than two minutes apart on the same penalty kill. Brandon Petrie sent Lenton on a breakaway with a long pass and his move beat Peters, while Sjoberg blocked a shot near the Delta blue line and went out on his own, also getting Peters to bite and make it a 6-0 final.
