September 14 Game Recap

It was not the Delta Ice Hawks’ night on Tuesday, as they fell 7-2 to the Richmond Sockeyes in the return of the Tunnel Series.

The Dalton Duo got the Hawks on the board first; Dalton McNabb won a puck battle behind the Sockeyes’ net and threw it out front to Dalton MacGillivray, who scored high-blocker on Marcus Cumberworth.

Richmond would take the lead with two goals towards the end of the period though. Jacob Dorohoy netted a power play goal, the first of five man-advantage goals for Richmond on the night, then Ben Ruthven had the go-ahead goal with just over two minutes left in the frame.

In the second period, Delta got into some penalty trouble. Dawson Chen made some big saves on a double minor early in the period to keep the score 3-1, but Richmond was able to break through with goals from JJ Maros, Garrett Wicks, and Jason Lin. The Sockeyes led 5-1 through two periods.

Matthew Stewart and Brayden Nager tacked on two more for the Sockeyes quickly to start the third, making it 7-1. Chen was replaced in the Delta net by Jacob Zillich, who made his Junior B debut. He stopped all 15 shots that he saw in the game in a strong showing.

Ryan Bayley added a goal for the Hawks with eight minutes left in the game; Kyle Kalamaras broke into the zone and passed to MacGillivray in the slot, who then found Bayley coming in on the far side.
