The Delta Ice Hawks suffered their first loss on home ice of the season, falling 10-3 to the defending PJHL champion Ridge Meadows Flames Tuesday night.
Ridge Meadows got on the board just 22 seconds into the game, with Zack Lagrange’s long shot finding its way through traffic.
That didn’t last long though, as 10 seconds later, the Sjoberg-Jakubec-Mathieson line went to work off the faceoff, with Mateo Sjoberg finishing off the play for his fourth goal of the year.
Before the media time out, Ridge took the lead back with a nice passing play and Pierce Whyte tapped in the go-ahead goal to make it 2-1 after the first.
Delta opened the second period on a high note, with Beckett Cross tying the game up again, then 2-2, with his third of the season. But Ridge took over after that, scoring five unanswered goals in the period for a commanding 7-2 lead through 40 minutes.
The Flames made it seven unanswered with two more goals in the third period before the Hawks finally broke through again with a long-shot goal from behind the centre line from Declan Warburton, who threw it on net and goalie Matthew Candusso was unable to handle the bounce.
Ridge reached double digits with one more goal with five minutes to go in the game, making it a 10-3 final for the visiting team.
