The Hawks took to the ice again on Sunday night for back-to-back game nights, this time against the Port Moody Panthers, who handed the Hawks their first loss of the season, 7-3.
Port Moody jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead less than four minutes in, with two goals from Ty Balchen. But the Hawks would come back to tie it in the period, as Declan Warburton scored two minutes later on a break down the right side. Nicholas Goyer evened the score with about five minutes left in the opening frame, finishing off a nice passing play from the visitors.
With 30 seconds to go, the Panthers took the lead back, with Connor Hughes finding the back of the net to make it 3-2 after 20 minutes.
Port Moody didn’t lose the lead again, as Aiden Samuels scored a power play goal and Ryan Sam had an even strength goal in the second to make it 5-2. A minute later, Beckett Cross roofed a beautiful pass from Teegan Sara for the Hawks’ final goal of the night, making it 5-3.
In the third, Marcus Lindholm scored two more to put the game out of reach for Delta. The Hawks are now 1-1 on the season and will play their first game in Ladner on Tuesday, September 10.
