Tunnel Series tied through three games

The Tunnel Series between the Delta Ice Hawks and Richmond Sockeyes is now tied following Tuesday night’s game, where the Sockeyes won 4-2.

Goalies Jordy Engleson and Braedy Euerby made 31 and 30 saves respectively, which kept the game close.

The Sockeyes got on the board first with the only goal in the opening frame. Richmond forced a turnover in the Delta zone and Ryan Watson finished the play, scoring low-glove side on Engleson.

Both teams notched a goal in the second period, with Mattias Hohlweg scoring first for Richmond, then Mark Epshtein cut the lead back to 2-1. Marcus Pantazis, playing against his former team, fought off his defender enough to find Epshtein in the slot and he tapped it home low-glove side.

The Epshtein-Pantazis duo struck again in the third, when Pantazis won the draw and Epshtein fired a shot right away to tie the game 2-2.

That is as close as the Hawks would come though, as Richmond pulled away with two goals of their own from Michael Araki-Young and Garrett Wicks.

Through three games, each team has a record of 1-1-1. The Tunnel Cup winner will come down to the final game of the season between the teams on Thursday, January 9.
