The Hawks’ third-period comeback fell short Sunday night, as the Chilliwack Jets took the 3-2 win in a shootout in the Valley.
The home team took a 2-0 lead on goals from Erich Rommel and Kaelan Huibers less than eight minutes into the game, and that lead held up until 1:08 of the third period.
Fifteen seconds into an early-period power play, Declan Warburton took a quick dish pass from Jaren Ashbee and after a step or two, wristed a shot past Brayden Melnyk to finally break the shutout and get the Hawks on the board.
Delta kept pushing and with 2:25 to go, Colin Jang threw a deep slapshot on net through traffic to tie the game 2-2 and send it to overtime.
The extra frame solved nothing, forcing a shootout, and Chilliwack’s Rommel scored the only goal to win it for the Jets.
