February 3 Game Recap – Hawks Win!

The Hawks wrapped up their season against the Port Moody Panthers with a 7-2 win on the road Saturday night, putting them on a three-game win streak with just two games left in the regular season.

Zach Shaughnessy, in his second game back from injury, stopped 28 of 30 shots he saw in the game and kept the Hawks up early, as it was a close game through the first two periods. Carson Merriman, also in his second game back, had two points and is just one point back of the all-time team lead in points.

Just one goal was scored in the first; a beautiful one-timer from Ryden Mathieson on the power play drew first blood for the visitors.

Conner Merriman’s breakaway goal and Beckett Cross’ tip out front in the second period made it 3-0 Hawks right before the halfway mark of the frame, but the Panthers got on the board before the end on a goal from Connor Hughes.

Danylo Bereza reclaimed Delta’s three-goal lead just 17 seconds into the third period, finishing off a cross-slot pass from Declan Warburton on the man-advantage to make it 4-1.

PoMo’s Daegun Chong scored about 20 seconds later to make it 4-2, but three more goals from Carson Merriman, Bereza, and Mateo Sjoberg put the game out of reach and locked in two more points for the Hawks heading into the last week of the season.
