The Ice Hawks took a 3-0 lead in their playoff series with the North Vancouver Wolf Pack with a 9-3 victory on the road Saturday night.
It was a bit of a slow start to the game for the Hawks, as they fell behind 2-0 in the first period on power play goals from JJ Pickell and Jason Scott. Colin Jang got Delta on the board before the end of the frame though, finishing off a 2-on-1 saucer pass from Dominic Passalacqua-Main to make it 2-1.
In the second, it was all Ice Hawks, who scored four goals in the frame. Michele Romeo had a tip off a point shot, Tye Hemenway scored on a long wrist shot from the blue line, Declan Warburton punched in his own rebound after a few chances, and Danylo Bereza took his time and picked the corner to send the Hawks into the intermission up 5-2.
Warburton kept it rolling in the third with a short-handed goal just 23 seconds in to make it 6-2 Delta. JJ Maros put up one more on the board for North Van, but that’s the closest they would come.
Passalacqua-Main notched his first goal of the year after coming off LTIR with a little tap-in out front, Payton Hu scored a power play goal on a big rebound in the slot, and Mateo Sjoberg had a nifty tip through his legs to wrap up the Hawks’ scoring on the night for the big win at Harry Jerome, sending the Hawks back home Sunday night with a commanding series lead.
