ABBOTSFORD, B.C. – The Delta Ice Hawks kept both hands on the wheel as they cruised to a 10-2 victory at the M.S.A. Arena, home of the Abbotsford Pilots.
The flurry of goals started early, with Danylo Bereza striking for his fifth goal of the season only 91 seconds in, followed by Ryden Mathieson’s 18th of the campaign. Ice Hawks rookie Jude Donnelly earned his first PJHL goal in the first frame, a goal which would end Abbotsford goalie Jovan Dhillon’s night and eventually stand as the game-winner. Eric Lee scored the first goal of the night on relief goaltender Joel Riedel, and then a power-play tally for Declan Warburton placed an exclamation mark on the first period. By the end of 20 minutes, the Hawks held steady with a 5-0 stranglehold on the contest.
The second period would prove a quieter affair, though Rajun Parmar would collect his first goal in an Ice Hawks uniform. Abbotsford got themselves on the board merely twenty seconds later via Linden Storebo. Nonetheless, the period ended with a 6-1 advantage for Delta.
Emboldened, Abbotsford looked to re-establish a presence in the game with Hudson Koch’s power-play goal past the midway point of the third period. The Hawks had other ideas, as they re-opened the taps and stormed their way to double-digits. Mateo Sjoberg added to his stellar goal totals this year, followed by second goals from Mathieson and Warburton, and capped off with Dylan Stafford’s first of the year.
Delta netminder Zach Shaughnessy closed out the night with 26 saves on 28 shots, pitching in on the scoresheet with two assists in the process.
The Ice Hawks come home to roost this Tuesday, November 19th with the Aldergrove Kodiaks lumbering their way to the Ladner Leisure Centre in search of their first win of the PJHL season.
