November 18 Game Recap – Hawks Win!

In their fourth meeting of the season already, the Ice Hawks remain undefeated against the Port Moody Panthers, taking home a 4-2 win in Port Moody tonight.

Dany Bereza continued his scoring streak with two goals on the night, and in their return to the lineup, the Merriman twins made an impact. Conner had two goals and Carson had three assists, the latter tying the Ice Hawks’ all-time assists leaders Jordan Deyrmenjian and Daniel Rubin with 105 career assists.

Bereza opened the scoring in the game, intercepting the puck in the Hawks’ zone and going up for a 2-on-1 with Carson Merriman. Merriman was able to find Bereza with room for a one-timer that went bar down for a 1-0 lead.

Port Moody had goals in the frame from Austin Todd and Ty Balchen for a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission, but that’s all the scoring the home team would see in the game.

Conner Merriman tied the game on another giveaway in Delta’s zone, this one by Mateo Sjoberg in the second period. He sent Merriman and Jang off on a 2-on-0 that the Panthers’ goalie Lucas Poratto had no chance on; Jang passing over to Merriman at the last possible second for Conner’s eighth of the year.

In the third, the Hawks’ first of two goals came off a faceoff – Port Moody’s centre won the battle, pushing the puck forward to a teammate, but Payton Hu was right there to lift the stick and steal it away. He found Bereza, who made a nifty move around a defender and scored his tenth of the year far side for give the Hawks back the lead 3-2.

With Port Moody pushing to tie it at the end of the game, Conner Merriman nabbed the puck at the Delta blue line and skated all alone down the ice for an easy empty-netter to seal the 4-2 win for the visiting Delta Ice Hawks.
