RELEASE: Delta Ice Hawks submit appeal to BC Hockey

February 9, 2023 – Ladner Leisure Centre, City of Delta, British Columbia

The Delta Ice Hawks would like to provide an update on the recent ruling by the PJHL which penalized the team eight points in the standings, due to the PJHL’s conclusion that an “ineligible” player had participated in four league games for the Ice Hawks. The player in question had played in the PJHL in each of the last two seasons, and the Ice Hawks had understood that he was properly registered with Hockey Canada and the PJHL before he played for the team this year.

Prior to the PJHL decision, the Ice Hawks had communicated with BC Hockey to determine why the team management software did not properly add this player to the Ice Hawks’ electronic roster. Since the PJHL ruling, the Ice Hawks have now received further information from Hockey Canada confirming that there was a technical issue with the Hockey Canada software that led to the issues with respect to the player’s registration.

The Delta Ice Hawks have provided this new information to BC Hockey as part of an appeal filed with BC Hockey, seeking to have the PJHL ruling reconsidered. The Ice Hawks are hoping to have a decision from BC Hockey in the coming days.
