September 16 Game Recap – Hawks Win!

In their second game against the Port Moody Panthers this week, the Ice Hawks took home their fourth-straight win to start the season, downing the Panthers 4-2 on the road.

Remy Quintoro got the start in net for Delta and earned his first PJHL win, stopping 26 of 28 shots faced.

In a quiet first period, Colin Jang netted the only goal. Baden Pazdzierski stole the puck from Panthers goalie Lucas Poratto in behind the net and dished across the slot to Jang, who had a wide-open cage to shoot on and gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Port Moody came back in the second period with two goals in the first half of the middle frame, scored by Evan Hays and Sahib Basra three and a half minutes apart, to take a 2-1 lead.

The Hawks evened the score before the end of the period when Carson Merriman wove his way into the Panthers’ zone and passed down to Nicholas Kolb in the corner, who found Declan Warburton in the slot for a tap-in.

In the third, Delta had two goals to seal the win. The first came when Jang stole the puck in the neutral zone and took a shot on net, stopped by Poratto, but the rebound bounced right onto the stick of new Hawk Lachlan Freer to give the Hawks the one-goal lead again.

And to add some insurance, Dylan Stafford kept the puck inside the blue line and found Jang in the middle. He kicked the puck onto his stick and passed across to Conner Merriman for a one-timer to finish the scoring at 4-2.
